Here at Peacock Sky Vineyard, most of our people come from somewhere else, looking for some place inspiring to settle for a time and continue on their life’s learning path. We invest in our chefs, wine tasters, servers, gardeners, and cleaners who then bring their love and their life’s passions to us.
When this gem, from Australia, saw that Peacock Sky was advertising she thought “wine not?!” After working in the restaurant trade in the Marlborough Sounds, Gemma wanted to focus more on her wine knowledge. Her clear passion for wine meant that Peacock Sky’s owners noticed her potential, and she swiftly progressed into the role of Cellar Door Manager. Gem heads up our team of tasters, training them to share our delicious wines with the world. It’s no wonder that Gemma gave up driving dump truck in the mines back in Aus, because anyone who does one of her tastings will be able to see that the wine industry is where her heart truly lies!
When not hiking or kayaking, you can find Gem spending her free time visiting other wineries. It’s not surprising that her future plans are located with vineyards and wine making. Maybe one day we will see her making wines for Peacock Sky!
And what would this wine enthusiast recommend for guests coming to Peacock Sky Vineyard? A glass of 2013 Le Côté de la Colline, our left bank Bordeaux style wine. Her favourite!
As our Office Manager, Fiona’s will usually be the first cheery face you see upon arrival to Peacock Sky. Fiona started off working part time in the hospitality industry whilst at university, eventually ending up managing one of Glasgow’s top bars…although it may not have been the obvious job to end up in after her degree; it’s probably the industry she was meant to be in all along. A true “people person”, as a kid she loved entertaining and helping her parents whenever they had friends round. If she hadn’t ended up in this job, her other childhood dream was to become an actress, and you may still catch her doing impressions and accents. Luckily for us, Fiona loves tourism & hospitality!
When not organising all of our reservations or entertaining our guests, you might find Fiona exploring different restaurants & bars on the island. She has also discovered since moving to Waiheke, that going on hikes can actually be enjoyable!
Our sociable office manager loves enjoying food and drink with friends so, of course, her favourite combo is our Sharing Platter with a bottle of our 2014 Reserve Blanc de Noirs; because everyone can get stuck in and nibble on lots of different bits and bobs!
Our fabulous Restaurant Supervisor from Argentina dabbled in South Island life over winter, but the strong draw of Waiheke Island has brought her back to us! Virginia arrived on Waiheke last year and found us by pure chance (after simply googling the word “vineyards”) but she swiftly fell in love with Peacock Sky and its small, close-knit team, and homely feel. A naturally shy person, Virginia actually loves that talking to different people from all over the world is the core part of her job, and she loves getting to know our restaurant customers.
When she’s not delivering delicious dishes from our kitchen to the tables, this self-confessed Harry Potter nerd likes hiking around the island’s many tramping trails playing “Wizards Unite” (Pokémon Go for Harry Potter fans, in case you didn’t know). Another obsession of Virginia’s is anything dog related, and when she misses her puppy who is at home with her Mum in Buenos Aires, Vir enjoys meeting all the dogs that Waiheke and its vineyards have to offer!
From early plans to become a Civil Engineer, this kind-hearted girl now has her sights on saving the world…she’s still working on how to do that, but for now she can definitely suggest that ordering a Lamb Shank with a glass of our delicious 2014 Pure Merlot will help to make your day that little bit better.
Guido has joined us from Buenos Aires as the new Lead Chef for Peacock Sky’s Restaurant; Le Côté de la Colline. There has only ever been one dream career for this kind-hearted Argentinian, and he’s following that dream! Guido is always looking to learn and build on his experience in the kitchen. After working in kitchens in Spain and Argentina, he has chosen New Zealand as his next workplace. When searching for workplaces in New Zealand, he came across beautiful Peacock Sky, and as soon as he arrived here he fell in love with the vineyard views.
This friendly, family guy will be heading up our busy little kitchen, honing his skills and thriving off the adrenaline of a kitchen environment. When he’s not at work, you might find him taking part in his other favourite activity after cooking, soccer! Waiheke’s Sport Park is the perfect setting to have a kick about with friends after work! Otherwise, Guido will be checking out the restaurants on the island, enjoying all that our little piece of paradise has to offer.
And what would our chef recommend that you enjoy in the restaurant? A New Zealand classic, slow-cooked Lamb Shank, with a glass of 2014 Pure Merlot.
This keen hockey player (and gymnast, AND trampolinist) from Northern England came here with her boyfriend, Owen, after she graduated from Glasgow University with a Masters in Physics. Sporty and brainy, our Liv simply loves learning and is part of our wine tasting team, leading guests through our delicious degustation tastings. With her keen eye for the next challenge, Liv noticed an advert for jobs at Peacock Sky on a bartender’s recruitment page, and she thought NZ sounded like a good plan for some post-university adventures! Liv was drawn to Peacock Sky because of our innovative food pairings matched with our 100% Waiheke wines, and her favourite thing about her job so far is meeting people from all over the world and learning about different cultures.
When she’s not working, you’ll find Liv enjoying yoga, pilates and walking, plus catching all of the Rugby World Cup matches on TV! This explorer had dreams of becoming an actor, but has now decided that a steadier job that gives her the funds to go travelling the world is a better plan…and who knows, maybe one day she’ll achieve another childhood dream to run a Safari Park with B&B accommodation in the African Bush!
And what would Liv recommend for you to enjoy when you come to Peacock Sky? The first wine she tried was our 2017 Rosé and it’s still her favourite today, paired with a delicious salmon mousse.
Arriving to New Zealand with his girlfriend Liv, Owen has joined the Peacock Sky team as our Activities Guy! After being in the cadets at school in Scotland, this Dundonian was the perfect fit to host our summer activity Action Pistol Shooting. He’s quickly fallen in love with the beautiful views we have up at Peacock Sky, overlooking the Waiheke Hills in one direction, and all the way over to the Sky Tower in Auckland in the other direction.
When he’s not cracking jokes and entertaining visitors to Peacock Sky for our activity days, you’ll find this sports fan going on hikes around the island, or at the Sports Park playing tennis or football. In the future, Owen plans to head back to Scotland and make use of his engineering degree, but between you and me, I think he still has his hopes set on playing professionally for Celtic, one of Scotland’s most famous football teams, just like Henrik Larsson!
As well as being new to New Zealand, Owen is also fairly new to wine, usually preferring to drink a nice crisp pint of Tennents Lager…but Peacock Sky’s unique 2014 Reserve Blanc de Noirs may have just started the process of converting him into a full-blown wine fan!
Meet Sky, the owner of Peacock Sky Vineyard. Or at least how he likes to think.
Usually you can find Sky from the vineyard, hanging out around or begging for a belly rub.
And what does this cute Bordercollie recommend to doggie friends when they come to hang out at Peacock Sky? Sleeping under the table, with some refreshing water that Peacock Sky will provide when having four legged guests.
